Donald’s Cream Ices is a family-run ice cream and frozen food wholesaler based in Gourock, Inverclyde. Due to a consistent increase in demand, the company’s freezer room was running at full capacity. This provided limited room for growth and left the company vulnerable to malfunctions. Overloading the freezer also restricted the air flow into the freezer room, reducing efficiency and increasing energy bills. The business contacted us for help in reviewing its freezer systems and to provide advice on the options available to increase capacity.
Donald’s Cream Ices had access to another freezer room at its site, but this was not used because faulty refrigeration plant and fabric deterioration made it too expensive to run. After a review of the business’s storage requirements, we recommended that installing a modern, energy efficient facility would be the most reliable and economical option to expand capacity.
We then supported Donald’s Cream Ices in applying for an unsecured, interest-free loan from the Scottish Government to fund its freezer room. This included providing due diligence guidance and support in selecting the most appropriate suppliers and equipment. The business has since received the loan and completed the installation of its new freezer room.
“I have nothing but good things to say about the service and the SME Loan. Thanks to the help and guidance provided throughout the whole process we were able to access the support and funding required to complete the new efficient freezer room.’” Carlo Amadei, Owner.
