Our team was delighted to see a Business Energy Scotland project showcased in this month’s edition of the Scottish Local Retailer magazine.
Chris Cobb, who runs Cults Stores Keystore in Aberdeen, first came to us looking for support to tackle rising energy costs. After a full energy assessment, we showed him that a few energy-efficient upgrades could save the business up to £4,500 a year on electricity bills.
With access to the Scottish Government’s SME Loan Scheme and other funding initiatives, Chris was able to invest in a package of improvements including energy‑efficient refrigeration, LED lighting and fire‑rated ceiling panels throughout the store.
Today, 85% of the store’s lighting is LED – with plans to reach 100% soon – and the new fridges mean the shop now benefits from quieter, more reliable equipment that keeps products at the right temperature while using far less power. The upgrades have also helped create a brighter, more welcoming shopping environment for customers.
Chris describes the retrofit as a “win‑win,” cutting operating costs and reducing the shop’s carbon footprint while improving the overall offer to the local community.
