The Grill had seen better days. Once a bustling takeaway business, it had lost its edge by the time brothers Sean and Mark Geddes, along with their mum, took over in August 2021.
And the family wasn’t ready to let the once thriving and well-respected Fraserburgh-based business fade away. Determined to revive it, they set out on an ambitious mission to bring The Grill back to life.
As part of the transformation, Sean and Mark wanted to tackle more than just the décor. The shop’s energy costs were too high, and they needed to find ways to cut back. So, they turned to Business Energy Scotland for help.
“Thanks to the support of Business Energy Scotland and the SME Loan Scheme, we have been able to quickly transform the Grill back into the thriving business it once was”.
After speaking with their expert advisor about their current energy use, equipment and business plans, they received a comprehensive report showing exactly where the business could save energy – and money.
One key recommendation stood out: replacing their tired old, energy-draining three-pan fryer. The impartial report demonstrated that by upgrading to a larger, high-efficiency model, the Grill could save more than £4,000 a year on energy bills. What’s more, the change would also slash annual carbon emissions by 11.7 tonnes – the equivalent of 41,220 car miles.
Reassured by the potential savings, Sean and Mark decided to take the plunge. And with the help of an interest free loan from the Scottish Government’s SME Loan Scheme, they invested in a new, high-efficiency counter range. The new range allows the team to happily serve customers on a busy night without breaking a sweat – or the bank.
With their carbon footprint reduced and thousands saved on bills, The Grill is now thriving once again. The future looks brighter, and greener, than ever before.
