Thinking about switching to an electric vehicle (EV)? There is a new grant could help make the move easier for organisations in Scotland’s rural and island communities.
Funded by Transport Scotland, the grant helps microbusinesses and third sector organisations install private EV charge points at their premises. It covers up to 100% of eligible purchase and installation costs, up to £5,000.
As Scotland prepares for the 2030 phase-out of new petrol and diesel cars, access to charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. For organisations in rural and island areas, where public charging options may be limited, having a dedicated charge point on site can make the transition to electric vehicles much more practical.
The funding is available for charge points used by staff or fleet vehicles and can help cover the cost of the charger itself, installation and any associated electrical work. It’s worth noting that the grant is only for private charging and cannot be used to provide public charging facilities.
Installing a workplace charger can bring a range of benefits. It makes it easier to operate electric vehicles day-to-day, gives staff convenient access to charging and helps organisations reduce the emissions associated with travel. For businesses and charities looking to cut their carbon footprint, it’s another step towards more sustainable operations.
